Simple Habits That Make a Big Difference
Brushing your teeth is something you do every day—but are you doing it the right way? Even small mistakes in your brushing routine can lead to plaque buildup, gum problems, and cavities. Here are some quick tips to make sure you’re getting the most out of your daily brushing.
1. Brush for Two Full Minutes
Most people brush for less than a minute—but that’s not enough! Aim for a full two minutes, twice a day, to clean every surface of every tooth.
2. Use a Soft-Bristled Toothbrush
Hard bristles can be tough on your enamel and gums. A soft-bristled brush cleans just as well without causing damage.
3. Don’t Brush Too Hard
Scrubbing harder doesn’t mean cleaner teeth. Gentle, circular motions are more effective—and much safer for your gums.
4. Angle Your Brush Correctly
Hold your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to your gumline. This helps remove plaque that builds up right where your teeth and gums meet.
5. Replace Your Toothbrush Regularly
Swap out your toothbrush (or electric brush head) every 3–4 months—or sooner if the bristles look frayed.
6. Don’t Forget Your Tongue
Brushing your tongue helps remove bacteria and keeps your breath fresher.
7. Use Fluoride Toothpaste
Fluoride strengthens enamel and helps protect against cavities. Make sure your toothpaste contains it!
