Grinding Your Teeth

Stress can trigger jaw clenching or teeth grinding by putting your teeth under undue pressure causing  microfractures to put your teeth at risk for further damage.

  
Nail Biting

Nail biting wears down your teeth, and puts a large amount of pressure on your front teeth. It can also aggravate your jaw muscles, leading to TMJ. If started at an early age, nail biting can contribute to the development of a gap in the front teeth also.


Using Your Teeth as a Tool

Using your teeth to bite off a tag or open a bottle can lead to many mishaps such as a broken tooth. Avoid using teeth to do anything other than chewing your food.


Chomping on Ice

Biting ice can potentially chip off part of your teeth’s enamel, crack a filling or, worse still, crack a tooth.


Aggressive Brushing

Brushing your teeth too hard wears down the enamel on your teeth, irritates your gums and causes you to develop sensitivity.   Always use a soft toothbrush and brush in circular motions at the base of the gums. Better yet purchase an electric toothbrush to do the work for you.
